Our Story
Located in Fairhope, Alabama along the
Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay,
East Bay Clothiers has been in business for
nearly 15 years. Owner and founder Genie
McCown opened the doors in 1994 after
spending12 years in the fashion industry in
New York and London.
A native of Mobile, Alabama, Genie returned
to the Gulf Coast in the early 1990’s and
saw an immediate need for an area menswear
store that could serve a growing clientele
of professional-minded businessmen looking
to update the classics of traditional
Southern dress.
“At East Bay Clothiers,” says Genie, “We
weren’t looking to reinvent the wheel. What
we were looking to do instead was to locate the
very best in men’s fabrics and construction
and in a timeless style and make that our
business. It’s a look that’s urban and
sophisticated but not so fashion conscious
that it won’t last year in and out. And our
clothing is built to last. That’s what our
customers have come to expect. Clothing in a
style and construction that endures. That to
them is value, and it’s what our entire
philosophy and business is built on.
“So whether it’s a basic blue suit for the
office,” she continues, “Eveningwear for a
Mardi Gras ball or even the rugged pair of
khakis shorts for hanging out on hot
summer’s day, you can know that the look and
make will be around for the duration… You
know, here in Fairhope and along the Eastern
Shore, in so many ways we’re part of the new
South – with people moving here from all
parts of the country. And
our clothing reflects that.
Our customers are looking for clothing that
is not just part of the uniform. They want
to dress with distinction without calling
undue attention to themselves. They want to
dress like men – like true gentlemen. That,
at East Bay Clothiers, is what we’re all
about.
"Come see us."
